Chandigarh : People in Punjab got a shock of a different kind Wednesday when Sukhbir Singh Badal took oath as the state’s deputy chief minister.
Reeling under power cuts everyday for the last few years, people recieved an uninterrupted electric supply to their homes and offices on the day.
“This cannot be a mere coincidence. This is deliberate. The government ensured uninterrupted power to make people watch Sukhbir’s swearing-in ceremony on TV,” pointed out Sunil Abrol of Ludhiana.
But Punjab state electricity board (PSEB), the state power distribution agency, officials were quick to deny the coincidence.
“There is nothing of this sort. It was one day when power requirement of the agriculture sector was less and we could divert it to domestic and commercial areas,” a PSEB official in Patiala said.
But with a regional TV channel showing the swearing in ceremony live to viewers across Punjab, there were not many takers of the theory that it was a mere coincidence that power supply was normal in entire Punjab.
