Chandigarh : The Punjab police Thursday announced that it would get stricter with proclaimed offenders in the future. All district police chiefs have been asked to attach properties of such offenders to bring them back within the reach of law.
The move follows the growing list of proclaimed offenders in the state’s 20 districts who are wanted for various crimes.
Punjab’s director general of police (DGP) N.P.S. Aulakh directed the district police chiefs to personally monitor the campaign against such offenders and ensure that they are traced.
“The ever increasing list of proclaimed offenders does not reflect well on the functioning of the police department,” Aulakh told senior police officials at a meeting here.
The DGP told police officers to remain vigilant against rising economic crimes like illegal lotteries, gambling and betting.
