BSF fires on suspected infiltrators near Jammu border

Jammu : Indian Border Security Force (BSF) guards opened fire twice after noticing “some suspicious movement” along the International Border (IB) with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Sunday, said an official.

Inspector General BSF Jammu Frontier A.K. Saroolia told reporters that guards at the Kanachak area of the IB noticed “suspicious movement of about two-three persons at 2.30 a.m. in the night and fired at them for some time.”

The movement was again noticed at around 5 a.m. Sunday and the guards fired again. “We saw some foot prints in the area this morning.”

The official said: “It could be an infiltration attempt.”

The security forces all along the frontier and also the hinterland are on extra alert in the runup to India’s Republic Day Monday.
