Security agencies find MAC extremely beneficial: Chidambaram

New Delhi : All security agencies have found “extremely beneficial” the Multi Agency Centre (MAC) formed in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks to improve intelligence sharing among them, and the centre was now proceeding with the second stage of the project, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said here Saturday.

“MAC is fully operational. All agencies have found it extremely beneficial,” the minister said at a press conference.

“We will now proceed with the second phase to link MAC with SMACs (state MACs) and the special branches in the state. The government has sanctioned Rs.147 crore (Rs.1.47 billion) for this, Chidambaram added.

He also detailed the various steps taken by him since assuming office Nov 30, 2008 including preparing a dossier on the complicity of elements from Pakistan in terror attacks, holding a conference of chief ministers on internal security, a separate conference of chief ministers of Maoist-hit states, and ensuring peaceful Republic Day celebrations throughout the country Jan 26.
