New Delhi : Warm weather, with the mercury nearly touching 30 degrees Celsius, when winter is supposed to be far from over has left Delhiites puzzled — and hot. But another spell of chill is likely, warns the met office.
Temperatures will fall in about three days once a set of warm winds from the west passes over. Till then, however, Delhiites have to live with the mercury hovering around the 30 degrees Celsius mark — about eight degrees above normal.
“The maximum temperature over the next two-three days is likely to be around 30 degrees Celsius while the minimum will hover at 13 degrees,” an official of the Safdurjung meteorological office told IANS.
The capital witnessed a maximum temperature of 29.8 degrees Celsius Wednesday, while the minimum recorded Wednesday morning was 10.6.
“These temperatures are well above normal,” the official said, adding that normal temperatures in the first week of February are supposed to be about 22 degrees Celsius maximum and nine degrees minimum.
The rising temperatures are due to a set of western disturbances (WDs) from the Jammu and Kashmir region that emerged a few days ago.
“Since the WDs are still passing over Delhi, the temperatures will rise and it will get dry. The disturbances should pass over in two or three days after which temperatures are likely to fall again,” the official explained.
The met department has forecast misty mornings and partly cloudy skies during the day.
