SAFMA slams murder of Journalist in Pakistan

New Delhi : The South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) and South Asia Media Commission (SAMC) condemned the attacks on SAFMA Secretary General Imtiaz Alam and the murder of Geo TV correspondent Musa Khankhel, in Swat region of Pakistan.

“We strongly condemn this attack on a journalist (Alam) and an advocate for peace,” SAFMA President Riazuddin Ahmed, SAMC Chairman N Ram and SAMC Secretary General Najam Sethi said in a joint statement.

SAMC said Khankhel’s murder showed the assailants’ motive could have only been achieved by silencing the brave journalist’s voice forever.

SAMC also expressed grief over the killing of a Tamil journalist, Punniyamurthy Sathyamurthy, killed on February 12.

Meanwhile, reacting to the killing of a journalist Musa Khankhel in Swat region of Pakistan, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma has said that terrorism is a threat to the entire global community.

External Affairs Anand Sharma added that it can only be defeated with joint efforts.
