Kolkata : Four human foetuses were found in a glass jar in a West Bengal village Tuesday, police said. However, locals claim there were at least nine foetuses.
Residents of Lavpur village in West Bengal’s Birbhum district were shocked when they found a jar filled with human foetuses in a bush.
“As per official reports, four human foetuses have been found in a bush in a paddy field in Lavpur. But villagers are saying there were at least nine foetuses inside the jar,” district police superintendent L.N. Meena told IANS by telephone.
“We are trying to find from where these foetuses came and who dropped them here,” Meena said.
However, officers of Lavpur police station suspect it to be the handiwork of quacks.
“The number of quacks has grown in the district over the past one year. They detect the gender of the foetuses and abort them in exchange for money. Besides, they also terminate illicit pregnancies for cash. We strongly feel that these foetuses came from one such clinic,” a senior police officer said.
