Melbourne : New South Wales (NSW) fast bowler Aaron Bird has been suspended from domestic cricket competition for an illegal bowling action.
Cricket Australia (CA) announced Wednesday that Bird’s action was found illegal under the CA Doubtful Bowling Action Procedures.
Bird’s action was reported as “doubtful” by the umpires following his team’s Ford Ranger Cup matches against Queensland and South Australia, and the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash Final against Victoria.
“Any player found to have displayed an illegal action is suspended from interstate competitions until he is able to complete a biomechanical analysis that demonstrates his action is legal, but no earlier than 90 days after the date a suspension commences,” CA said in a release.
The player has the right to challenge the findings in the bio mechanical assessment report through a CA Bowling Review Group hearing.
Bird has made himself available to undergo an analysis of his bowling action at the Australian Institute of Sport bio mechanics laboratory in Canberra Feb 11.
