A meeting of the Joint Monitoring Coordination Committee (JTMM) comprising the government, CPN-M and the United Nations representatives held in the Nepali capital on Monday took a decision to this effect.

The United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) has started verifying the arms and combatants cantoned at the Second Division in Sindhuli District, some 80 km east of Kathmandu.

“Around 500 combatants will be verified today (Tuesday)”, Maoists Division head Rajesh said.

The verification at three satellite camps at Solusalleri of Sinduli, Bellsot of Udayapur district and Khayermar of Mahottari district will start immediately after the verification at the Second Division is completed, the report said.

The UNMIN had registered nearly 2,800 combatants at cantonments under the Second Division.

Emerging from Monday’s meeting, CPN-M deputy commander Nanda Kishor Pun alias Pasang said, “The verification process will now continue unabated as the problems we confronted earlier on have been settled.”

Though the CPN-M had proposed the re-verification of 558 combatants at the First Division, the UNMIN has agreed to re-verify some of the combatants.

The UNMIN had completed the second stage of verification in Ilam district in eastern Nepal on June 27.

Following the verification in Ilam, the CPN-M leadership had urged the UNMIN to stop the process, saying that it had some important issues to settle with other political parties.
