Madhya Pradesh seeks nod for relief work

Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has again urged the Election Commission to allow the government to do rehabilitation work in drought hit areas of the state.

“This would help arrest the migration of people and ensure that voters vote in their respective villages,” Chouhan said in a letter to the Election Commission Wednesday. A copy of the letter was distributed to media Thursday.

Officials said the government needed to get permission for doing rehabilitation work so that it does not get accused of violating the model code of conduct governing the Lok Sabha elections.

The chief minister said that scanty rainfall has damaged crops and led to drought in 152 tehsils.
