Shenzhen (China) : Defending champion Rashid Khan had a modest start with an even par 72 in the Under-18 section of the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at the Mission Hills Golf Club.
Fellow Indian Amanjyot Singh also scored an even par 72.
The two are three shots behind the overall leader, Chinese Taipei’s 17-year-old woman golfer Hsieh Yu-Ling who is the overall first round leader following an impressive three-under-par 69 on the Faldo Course.
Among other Indians, S. Chikkarangappa shot a 78 and Ankur Chadha an 80 in Boys
Under-18 section. Gauri Monga shot an 81 in Girls Under-16.
The 17-year-old Hsieh last year won girls’ under-16 competition. She had five birdies during her 69. With the title of Faldo Series Asia champion awarded to the lowest gross score, the star from Taipei is in pole position to become the tournament’s first female winner.
More than 60 players from 13 different Asian countries are competing in the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final, plus five winners from the 2008 Faldo Series Grand Final in Brazil.
