Lucknow : At a time when politicians hire helicopters and SUVs for election campaigns, a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Lok Sabha candidate in Uttar Pradesh goes about on a bullock cart and pedal-rickshaw for canvassing.
Gauri Shankar, the BSP Lok Sabha nominee for the Etawah constituency, says bullock cart and pedal-rickshaw are the modes of transport “used by common people”, who elect members to parliament.
“As I want to represent the issues related to the common people, I have chosen their mode of transport for soliciting support from the voters,” Shankar told reporters in Etawah Saturday.
There are nearly 703,946 registered voters in Etawah, some 200 km from here. Raghuraj Singh Shakya of the Samajwadi Party is the sitting MP from that constituency.
