Lucknow : Mithlesh Kumari, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Lok Sabha nominee for the Farukkhabad constituency in Uttar Pradesh, has been booked for defying the model code of conduct, police said Monday.
A case was registered against her Sunday for distributing calendars of Hindu deities, carrying her party’s symbol and her photograph.
“She is accused of misusing religious sentiments in her campaign,” police inspector Krishna Kumar told IANS on telephone from Farukkhabad, about 150 km from here.
He said the BJP symbol lotus was embossed on the calendars portrayed ‘Ram Darbar’. It also had a photograph of Kumari.
“A report is being prepared against Kumari and will be soon sent to the State Election Commission (SEC) for taking further action against her,” sub-divisional magistrate Ram Bahadur said.
