Golma, wife of Kirori Lal Meena, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rebel leader and who was elected as an independent from Mahuwa assembly constituency, sent in her resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi with a request to accept it.

“Golma has sent her resignation to Sonia Gandhi as well as has also sent a copy of the same to the chief minister’s residence,” Kirori Lal Meena told reporters here.

In the resignation letter Golma has said that her husband time and again has been insulted and humiliated by the Congress leaders, including union Minister of State for Forest Namonarayan Meena.

“I am not hungry for the post and I cannot tolerate insult of my husband. So, I am resigning,” Golma Devi said in her resignation letter.

Political analysts see the resignation as a pressure tactic by Kirori Lal Meena, a Meena community leader, to get more seats for his nominees in the parliament elections.

The rebel BJP leader, who is considered as one of the main reasons behind Vasundhara Raje’s government not returning to power, reportedly is angry with the Congress over ticket distribution for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Meena wanted his nominees to contest 7 of the 25 seats in Rajasthan while the Congress was ready to give him only one seat. Rajasthan goes to polls on May 7.
