Washington : The story of an angry Indian journalist throwing a shoe at Home Minister P. Chidambaram went largely unnoticed in the US media with only a couple of TV channels taking brief note of the incident.
The Washington Post instead published a story from Baghdad about an Iraqi court reducing the prison sentence from three years to one for an Iraqi journalist who last year hurled his shoes at then US president George W. Bush.
So did the Washington Times. But either story made no mention of the incident during a press conference in New Delhi. The web editions of a couple of papers did carry an agency story, which made no mention of the trend setting Bush incident.
The CNN did show a short clip of the incident in its “Situation Room” programme with a replay of the incident involving Bush. CBS took note of the New Delhi incident but as a footnote to the story about the Iraqi journalist’s sentence being reduced.
“News of the reduction in sentence comes the same day an angry journalist threw a shoe at India’s top security official during a press conference in New Delhi,” it noted.
