New Delhi : President Pratibha Devisingh Patil Saturday condoled the loss of lives and property in Peru after an earthquake this week.

In her condolence message to Peru’s President Alan Garcia, Patil said: “It is with shock and sadness that we received the news of the earthquake in which many precious lives have been lost, and properties and infrastructure damaged.”

“I wish to take this opportunity to express to the bereaved families, the government and the people of Peru our deepest sympathies and solidarity,” she added.

The magnitude-8 earthquake that shook coastal Peru Wednesday night has left 510 dead, more than 1,500 injured and at least 85,000 people homeless.
