Colombo : Sri Lanka’s temporary truce with the Tamil Tigers to mark the Sinhala and Tamil New Year began Monday even as the rebels killed a soldier in sniper attack, the military said.
Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) fired a mortar shell wounding one soldier and killing another in Puthukkudiyiruppa area in Mullaitivu district.
“Other than these two incidents, things are smooth in the battle area,” he said.
There has been no response from the LTTE regarding the unilateral halt in fighting by the government.
