Patna : Maoist guerrillas killed three people in a Bihar village and blew up a multi-storeyed house of a wealthy farmer in two separate incidents, police said Monday.
Over 80 armed Maoists Sunday night attacked the house of Guddu Sharma, block chief of Maker in Saran district, 150 km from here, and shot dead his wife Pawan Devi, uncle Shambhu Sharma and security guard Mritunjay Kumar Singh.
Saran Superintendent of Police Sanjay Singh, who rushed to the Sharma’s home in Machliu Jamalpur village, said the block chief managed to escape from the back door of his house.
The rebels torched three of Sharma’s vehicles and put up a poster on the walls of his house threatening to kill him too.
Sharma is known for his muscle power in the area and enjoys political clout and this had angered the Maoists, the police said.
S.K. Bhardawaj, the inspector general (operations), said the police had launched operations to arrest the killers.
In another incident, the rebels blew up Sunday a house of Ramanand Yadav, a rich farmer in Mayapur village in Aurangabad district. They are said to have looted cash and valuables worth over Rs.800,000.
Scores of Maoists attacked Yadav’s house and held his family members, including his wife and four sons, captive at gunpoint. The guerrillas tied up their hands and feet and assaulted them when they failed to find Yadav.
They later blew up the house with dynamite, said Sushil Khopade, the superintendent of police in Aurangabad.
