Tikrit (Iraq) : Two police officers and a soldier were killed in insurgent attacks in Salahudin province north of Baghdad Monday, police said.
“Unknown gunmen shot dead Lt. Col. Nasir Mahmoud Issa and his brother Major Jamal in the al-Hajaj area near the town of Beiji, some 200 km north of Baghdad,” Col. Hassan Ahmad from Salahudin police said.
The attackers intercepted the car of the two victims while they were heading to work in the police headquarters of the provincial capital of Tikrit, 170 km north of Baghdad, Ahmad said.
In a separate incident, an Iraqi Army soldier was killed and another injured when a roadside bomb struck their vehicle near the Sarha Bridge in the southern town of Tuz-Khurmato, 90 km east of Tikrit, he said.
Also in the province, the police said that their patrols found five abandoned trucks on the main road near the town of Tuz-Khurmato, he added.
Insurgents active in the area apparently attacked the five trucks and kidnapped the drivers, Ahmad said.
