Patiala (Punjab): A major fire broke out in the forest area of Bhadson in this Punjab district Sunday, spreading over a two km area, police said.
“Six fire brigade vans were pressed into service to control the blaze that was spreading very rapidly due to strong winds. The fire has been almost controlled by now but we are still keeping an eye on the situation as fire is emerging from different areas,” said a police official.
Bhadson forest area in Patiala district is around 80 km from the state capital Chandigarh.
A senior forest official here said a huge area of forest cover was destroyed in the fire.
“We are trying to ascertain the cause of fire but it could not be known yet. However, it seems that fire has reached the forest area from the nearby wheat fields,” the official said.
