Chennai : Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) candidate from Madurai P. Mohan will be unable to campaign any more due to his illness, the party said Tuesday.
“Owing to stomach pain developed during the campaign, the candidate, Mohan, is not in a position to meet the people to canvass for votes. Under the circumstances, the AIADMK, the CPI-M and leaders of allies will canvass for him,” CPI-M leaders V. Sundaram and R. Annadurai said in a joint press statement.
Shifted to a private hospital here, Mohan has been advised to undergo minor surgery and a month’s rest.
A partner in the AIADMK-led front in Tamil Nadu, the CPI-M is contesting three seats in the state – the others being Kanyakumari and Coimbatore.
Madurai lies 400 km south of the state capital.
