Medicine scam unearthed in Delhi, four arrested

New Delhi : Four people, including two pharmacists and a peon of the central government health services (CGHS), were arrested for allegedly stealing medicine from a government hospital and selling it in the open market at low prices, police said Tuesday.

Sleuths of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch arrested Sanjay Kumar, a nursing staff with the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, Satish Kumar, pharmacist in Ashok Vihar CGHS dispensary, Gugan Ram, peon in Paschim Vihar CGHS dispensary and one Mahesh Kumar near Kashmiri Gate area in north Delhi.

Huge quantity of medicines, blank signed OPD slips, computer and other documents were recovered from them.

According to police, they were arrested on a tip-off that Mahesh would come near the Presentation Convent School to strike a deal for the supply of medicine stolen from the CGHS dispensary by its own employees.

“On searching his bag a huge quantity of medicines having stamps of “For CGHS supply not for sale” were recovered. On sustained interrogation, he revealed that he had taken these medicines from Satish. The other accused were subsequently arrested,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime branch) R.K. Jha.

“During interrogations, it was disclosed that they were involved in the racket of stolen medicines and supplying the same in open market at very low rate by preparing forged OPD slips and forged indent through CGHS,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police R.K. Jha.
