New Delhi: India’s Chief Election Commissioner Naveen Chawla Thursday faced a bit of confusion about where to vote, but the Delhi chief electoal officer later clarified he had been informed about the change in his polling booth.
Chawla along with his wife and daughter exercised their franchise at booth number 86 in Nirman Bhavan that houses government offices and has been turned into a VIP polling station for the elections in the New Delhi constituency.
His name was initially missing from the voters’ list, but it was later found that his name had appeared on another list as he had shifted home after his promotion as CEC.
“There was confusion and I voted in booth number 86,” Chawla told reporters outside Nirman Bhavan.
Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Satbir Silas Bedi clarified: “We already informed the CEC about the changes on Feb 13 when we were preparing the list of voters for the 15th Lok Sabha elections.
“We found his name at two places. Though we have deleted the name from one place but the software did not accept the change leading to the confusion in the morning,” she told reporters.
She said Chawla was aware of the change and the media had blown up the matter.
