Agartala: More than 200 of waqf plots have been encroached in Tripura, according to a survey done by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind.
The State President of JUH, Mufti Taibur Rahman said that a JUH team conducted a survey on waqf properties in Tripura in April and May of this year.
Mufti Taibur Rahman said that his team “identified 205 Wakf properties, including land and ponds belonging to mosques, dargahs and other religious structures illegally occupied or encroached upon.”
Encroached lands even include burial grounds, according to Rahman and in some places encroachers are panchayats and nagar panchayats.
A JUH delegation met the Wakf Board chairman Shahid Chowdhry and submitted the list of encroached properties.
Md. Farukul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of Tripura Board of Wakfs confirms that they have received the list but said that “this is a complicated issue and we are moving cautiously to avoid protracted litigation,”
