Third Front leaders to meet on May 16: Naidu

By IANS,

Hyderabad : Leaders of the Third Front would meet immediately after counting of votes on May 16 to chalk out their future course of action, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu said here Tuesday.

Predicting that the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would fail to get a majority, the former Andhra Pradesh chief minister said regional parties would play a key role in the formation of the next government in New Delhi.

He was speaking at a review meeting with district party leaders at the party headquarters NTR Trust Bhavan.

He claimed that the wind was blowing in favour of regional parties across the country. “AIADMK in Tamil Nadu and the BSP in Uttar Pradesh will do well in these elections,” he said, adding that he would be meeting leaders of the two parties as well as the Left and others after vote counting.

He was confident that the “Mahakutami” or the TDP-led grand alliance, including the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) would come to power in the state.

Naidu has maintained a “no comment” stance over the TRS declaring its support for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the centre.

TDP sources said Naidu preferred to maintain silence till May 16. He wants to adopt a “wait and watch policy” instead of precipitating matters by reacting to the TRS move before the results, said a party leader.
