New Delhi : The Election Commission Wednesday said it was “immensely satisfied” with the entire process of the staggered five-phase general elections that started April 16 and ended May 13.
“Barring a few incidents of violence, the entire poll process has been largely peaceful,” Chief Election Commissioner Naveen Chawla said at a press conference here.
The poll panel condoled the death of polling personnel, security personnel and other civilians in various poll-related incidents.
“The Commission deeply condoles the death of those individuals while delivering the sacred duty of delivering elections,” Chawla said.
He said that the homework to conduct the elections started way in advance.
“We have been intensely preparing over the last five months for this general election,” he said. The commission put in relentless efforts to make it happen, he added.
Chawla also praised former chief election commissioner N. Gopalaswami for overseeing the arrangements for the polls.
“The full Commission would like to express its gratitude to N. Gopalaswami, who oversaw all the arrangements for the general elections and the first phase of the polls,” Chawla said.
