YSR retains Pulivendula, Naidu wins again in Kuppam

Hyderabad : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who led Congress party back to power in the state in 2004, was Saturday re-elected to the assembly from Pulivendula constituency in his native Kadapa district.

YSR, as the chief minister is popularly known, retained the seat with a majority of 69,092 votes. His nearest rival was S.V. Satish Kumar Reddy of Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

YSR, who is all set to become the chief minister again, had defeated Satish Kumar Reddy by over 41,000 votes in 2004.

He has now won the seat for the third consecutive term. He had earlier represented this constituency for three terms from 1978 to 1985.

YSR’s rival and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu retained the Kuppam assembly seat in his native Chittoor district. He defeated Congress party’s M. Subramanyam Reddy by a margin of 46,000 votes.

Naidu has won the seat for the fifth consecutive term. However, the victory margin has come down. He was elected in 2004 elections with a majority of over 60,000 votes.
