New Delhi: Days after her father and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Purno A. Sangma apologised to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for raising the issue of her foreign origin, Agatha Sangma, the youngest minister in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, Tuesday said the controversy was “an issue of the past”.
“This is an issue of the past. We are working together in the UPA government. One must move on,” Agatha Sangma, 28, told reporters while replying to a question related to the controversy over Gandhi’s foreign nationality.
The senior Sangma had, along with Sharad Pawar and Tariq Anwar, parted ways with the Congress on Gandhi’s foreign origin issue in 1999 and formed the NCP.
Sangma, a former Lok Sabha speaker, however, apologised to Gandhi June 5 for having raised the issue.
Agatha said: “I was there” when her father apologised to Gandhi.
