Islamabad : Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that the Supreme Court was receiving approximately 600 applications regarding the Human rights and public interest cases every day from various parts of the country including far flung areas.
The Chief Justice said this on Saturday while addressing the 5th Roll Signing Ceremony of the Advocates of the Supreme Court. The ceremony was held here in the Supreme Court building Islamabad.
The Supreme Court is trying its best to come up to the expectations of the people but dealing with such a large number of cases is a tough job, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said.
The Chief Justice said that the High Court and lower courts should also apply the respective laws to decrease the burden on Supreme Court, as people from far flung areas approaches the Court for redressal in such cases.
Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said, “there is even more responsibility on judiciary now, but it is ready to deliver. It will be discharging its duties to the expectations of the people.”
Let the rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution be there. Let all the institutions work independently and everything will be normal, he said.
Talking about the jurisdiction of the institutions, the Chief Justice said, “Encroachments in one another’s area create problems. Everyone should be allowed to do his duties.”
Giving reference of a case about missing persons, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that in the missing person’s case a person was missing for last 3 years and was released on Apex Court’s direction. Such actions of the Supreme Court have built the confidence of the people, increased their respect for rule of law and belief in the supremacy of the Constitution, he added.
Bar and Bench played important role in upholding the rule of law. The unity, discipline and faith showed by the legal fraternity have proved their metal, he said.
The legal fraternity has made everyone believe in rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution. Now everyone respects the bar and the bench even more, he said.
Addressing the newly enrolled Advocates the Chief Justice said that they were pursuing a very noble profession, which ensures the rights of the people.
All the newly enrolled advocates have been in the legal profession since long and have enough experience in the field, Justice Iftikhar said.
The Chief Justice advised them to use their expertise in the field of legal profession for the benefit of the public.
He said that, “Now after becoming the Advocates of Supreme Court there is a heavy duty upon your shoulders to serve the public, advance cause of justice and perform duties with hard work dedication, sincerity and work for the supremacy of law”.
Registrar Supreme Court Dr. Faqir Hussain was also present in the ceremony.
Earlier, 16 Advocates signed the Roll in front of the Chief Justice of Pakistan. Each advocate introduced himself to the Chief Justice.
The Chief Justice congratulated them on their enrollment as Advocate of the Supreme Court.
