New Delhi : Facing strong criticism for the power crisis in the capital right during the peak of summer, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Sunday promised the city the situation will improve in a few days and sternly asked the power distribution companies to improve their response time.
“Now we will get 150 MW from the central power grid as a relief. In addition, the Mandola power station, which was shut down, is now giving 300-325 MW. So there should be a little relief,” Dikshit told reporters after a meeting with the officials of the power distribution companies like BSES and North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL).
The chief minister said the power companies were told that their response time was poor and the outages that should have been half an hour long were turning out to be six to seven hours.
“This would not be tolerated,” she added.
Earlier, Congress president Sonia Gandhi had called Dikshit asking her to take quick and effective steps to control the situation.
In the past few days, most parts of the capital city have faced prolonged power outages of up to 10 hours a day when the mercury went above 43 degrees Celsius, leaving the people sweating and fuming. Residents have also held several protest demonstrations across the city.
