Islamabad : At least five people including a policeman were wounded Monday in a time-bomb explosion in a northern Pakistani district, where the security forces have been conducting an operation since April. A time-bomb device exploded in the main bazaar of Buner district of Malakand Division, security sources told KUNA.
They said the explosion wounded five people including a policeman. They added that two of the wounded were in critical condition.
Meanwhile, the military continued its operation against local militants in the area. In Maidan area a mortar shell hit a house that killed two persons and wounded three others.
Pakistani military sources said that throughout the night the forces and militants exchanged heavy fire in Lower Dir area. They said the military gunship helicopters also pounded suspected militants hideouts. However, no casualties were immediately known. Forces have claimed killing over 1500 militants in Malakand Division since the operation was launched after peace deal between the militants and the government collapsed.
