Hyderabad : Two girl students consumed poison and one of them died after their principal allegedly insulted them for coming late to the college, police said Wednesday.
Ramya, a pharmacy student, died while undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital in Warangal town Tuesday while her classmate is battling for her life.
The incident took place in Yellapur in Hasanparti Mandal in Warangal district.
The two students of B. Pharmacy resorted to the extreme step after the principal of St. Johns College allegedly scolded them before other students for coming late, a police officer said.
The incident has shocked the student community as a criminal case has been registered against the college management on the orders of Warangal District Collector N. Sridhar to the police.
Two state ministers P. Lakshmaiah and Konda Surekha called on the family of Ramya in Warangal and assured it that stern action would be taken against those guilty.
Student organisation activists staged a protest during the ministers’ visit and demanded derecognition of the college.
