Delhi power demand touches new record of 4,400 MW

By IANS,

New Delhi : The capital’s power demand Wednesday reached a new high of 4,400 MW as residents had no respite from heat and humidity due to delayed monsoon.

“Power demand in Delhi reached 4,408 MW Wednesday. This is the highest ever power demand recorded in the national capital,” a Delhi Transco Ltd official told IANS.

Delhi’s peak power demand has grown this summer, breaking and setting new records, especially in the last fortnight. On June 27, the demand was 4,218 MW, it touched 4,261 MW two days alter and it was 4,337 MW June 30.

“The high demand is because of high humidity and no rainfall in the capital,” the official said.

The capital Wednesday recorded a maximum temperature of 40.6 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature settled at 30.6 degrees Celsius. The humidity level was recorded at 42 percent.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon will remain weak in the capital and neighbouring states.
