New Delhi : Delhi High Court Thursday suspended a lower court’s conviction of former bureaucrat Runu Ghosh on corruption charges and granted her bail.
Ghosh was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for amassing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs.20.94 lakh during the tenure of former union minister Sukh Ram.
Justice V.K. Shali granted Ghosh, who had been on interim bail after her conviction, regular bail on personal and surety bond of Rs.50,000 each.
A court on May 15 had sentenced her to three years’ imprisonment, a fine of Rs.100,000 and had ordered confiscation of her illegal wealth.
The court had said that she has acquired the assets between Nov 1, 1992 and Aug 16, 1996 while serving as deputy director general in the telecom department.
A raid by the Central Bureau of Investigation in her house Aug 16, 1996 had revealed disproportionate assets and cash worth Rs.4 lakh.
