Ranchi : Three kidnappers were killed in a gun battle with police here Friday and the son of a businessman was rescued, police said.
Lav Kumar, 22, son of Banti Bhatia, was abducted Thursday night when he was returning home. Bhatia owns Ranchi’s largest hotel Capitol Hill, two restaurants and sweet shops. The family had informed about the kidnapping Thursday night to police.
Two youths were arrested by the police from Barhi in Hazaribagh district, on the Ranchi-Patna national highway early Friday. They were reportedly carrying the mobile SIM card and clothes of Lav Kumar.
“The arrested men gave a lead to the police. We raided a house in Dhruva area of Ranchi that belonged to Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC). The house was locked from outside. As the police broke the lock and tried to enter the house, the abductors fired at the policemen and the gun battle started,” a police officer said.
“Three abductors were killed and police seized three revolvers, live cartridges and other things from the house. Also, sophisticated weapons were seized from a nearby house,” the officer said.
The abductors had locked Lav Kumar in a bathroom of the house from where he was rescued.
