Private firms should not be given public security charge: CPI-M

New Delhi : The Andhra Pradesh government must review its decision to engage private firms for public security, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) said Wednesday in the aftermath of the twin blasts in Hyderabad at the weekend.

Condemning the blasts that killed 43 people Saturday, CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury said that the security at the Lumbini Park, where the first of the two blasts occurred, was managed by a private firm.

“There were metal detectors and no one could enter into the open theatre without going through it,” he pointed out. “How could anybody enter there with a bomb? As the security checking was done by private firms, no one is accountable and answerable for the incident now.”

“The government should seriously rethink and reverse this. It cannot abdicate its duty in the name of privatisation,” Yechury, a Rajya Sabha MP, said.
