Mumbai: It was a big jolt for Congress-Nationalist Congress Party combine government of Maharashtra when Muslims in a large number including women from several parts of Mumbai joined Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). This is important as it happened before the assembly election which is likely to be held in September, 2009.
MNS was formed in 2005 by Raj Thakray after splitting from Shiv Sena, a hindu nationalist party headed by his uncle Bal Thackeray. MNS workers have been promoting violence in the name of region and its activist attacked north Indian people time and again.

However, it was Wednesday morning when a sizable number of Muslims from across Mumbai visited MNS chief Raj Thakray at his home in Dadar area of Mumbai and announced to join the party. They expressed their anger against ruling Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) saying that they have been demanding Congress and NCP for justice but they always disappointed them. So now they are looking towards MNS with hope for justice.
On the occasion vice president of MNS Haji Arafat Shaikh put the social, economic and educational problems of Muslim community before party chief Raj Thakray. He especially highlighted the problems of Haj aspirants, problems of Muslim students before admission and unemployment of Muslim youth.
Raj Thakray warmly welcomed all Muslims who joined the MNS and assured them to try to solve the problems of Muslim community at his level best. He said: “Our door for Muslims is always open. I will talk to the government for the legal rights of Muslim community” he said.
