Lucknow : A murder case has been registered against six policemen in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh for their alleged involvement in a fake encounter that took place three years ago, police said Friday.
The Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID), investigating the encounter of August 2006, lodged the case against two sub-inspectors and four constables.
“A wanted criminal, Sultan Kori, was killed by police in Haripur village in 2006. The CBCID was probing it after his family members filed a complaint terming the encounter fake. Based on the findings, the CBCID ordered us to lodge a case,” Inspector S.P. Shukla told IANS on phone.
“All the policemen named in the FIR (First Information Report) are now posted in other districts and soon we will initiate an inquiry and if necessary, they will be arrested,” he added.
