Kochi: The government is considering the problems of Malabar seriously, said Binoy Viswom, state Minister of Forest. He was inaugurating a seminar on education organised by the Mujahid Students’ Movement in Kozhikode.
There are enough facilities for higher secondary education in Kerala, said Mr Viswom. But when taking the case of Malabar alone, seats are not enough. Many a number of students have lost the opportunity for higher studies in Malabar this year. He added that the government had given instructions to collect data regarding those panchayats that do not have higher secondary schools.
Mr Viswom said that several institutions that function in the pretext of minority rights were now being used for business motives. Neither the poor nor any other weaker sections get the benefits of these institutions. The government would like this attitude to change. But it is not right to term this as an anti-minority move. Minority education institutions are allowed by the Constitution. But reports that the LDF government is against it are wrong, he added.
Speakers at the seminar were of the view that all should try together with a matured approach to avoid controversies in the field of education. Those in the academic and public spheres should work together to form consensus. The Education Bill introduced by the central government is hopeful, yet clarity is needed in the matter of backward and weaker sections.
ET Muhammed Basheer, MP, Dr Fasal Gafoor, TP Abdullakkoya Madani, KNM President, Dr K Muhammed Shaheer, MSM General Secretary, EK Bareer Aslam, treasurer, and Muhammed Shakkir spoke at the seminar.
