“Terrorism seems to be in its last legs in Tripura which bodes well for faster development in this state,” he said after unfurling the national flag at the Assam Rifles ground here.

“We all must reiterate our resolve to banish militancy with courage, vigour and determination and share the commitment of our government to bring the fruits of development to every home of the state,” Sarkar said.

People came out in large numbers to participate in the Independence Day celebrations, defying the boycott call by militant group Tripura People’s Democratic Front (TPDF), the so-called political wing of the banned All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF).
