Peshawar : Islamist insurgent group Teherik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has named Muslim Khan as the group’s new spokesman, the Online news agency reported Wednesday.
The acting head of the TTP, Moulvi Fakhir Muhammad Wednesday appointed the group’s spokesman in the Swat region as its new chief spokesperson.
The decision was taken after the arrest of the TTP’s central spokesman Moulvi Omar by the security forces.
Moulvi Omar, spokesman of the TTP, was captured by the security forces in the Mohmand tribal agency while he was heading to Bajaur in a car with two of his associates.
All three have been shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
The acting TTP chief said in comments to BBC (Urdu) on telephone that a Shoora meeting will be held soon to change the name of the organisation.
He added that TTP chief Baitullah Mehsud is alive and is in hiding due to his illness.
During interrogation Moulvi Omar claimed that Mehsud was killed in a US drone attack.
North West Frontier Province (NWFP) Information Minister Iftikhar Hussain told reporters that Moulvi Omar had confirmed the death of Baitullah Mehsud during investigations.
