13th Delhi book fair comes calling

New Delhi : With thousands of books from various countries under its belt, the 13th Delhi Book fair is all set to attract book lovers in the capital. Starting Sep 1 the fair will continue till Sep 9.

To be held at Pragati Maidan, the fair is jointly organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and the Federation of Indian Publishers. It is aimed at inculcating and encouraging reading habits especially among the children and youth.

Around 235 companies from the publishing sector, including 13 from overseas, will display over 50,000 new books in the fair.

Publishers from China, Pakistan, Iran, UAE, US and Vietnam will display the best of their books.

Sheela Bhide, chairman and managing director, ITPO, said that more than 200,000 visitors are expected to visit the fair this time, clearly surpassing last year’s number.

Thirteen seminars will be held covering all aspects of the book industry during the book fair. Besides, there will be a number of book release functions, book quiz programmes, awards ceremony and a painting competition.

Bhide said that more than 40 Indian publishers will participate in the world’s largest book fair to be held at Frankfurt in October.
