Thiruvananthapuram : The Kerala government has chosen renowned artist M.F. Husain for the Raja Ravi Varma Award 2007.
Announcing this at a press briefing, Culture Minister M.A. Baby also called up Husain, who is in London, to inform him of the decision, and later told reporters that the veteran artist was "very moved" with the gesture.
Named after one of India's most celebrated painters, the award carried a cash prize of Rs.125,000.
Baby said the award would be conferred upon Husain here Sep 17 on his 92nd birthday. He added that Husain would be treated as state guest during his visit.
