London : Zat Knight headed a goal on his Aston Villa debut as Chelsea slumped 2-0 for their first defeat of the season.

The former Fulham defender, playing his first game for his new club Sunday since signing last week, headed home a Gareth Barry corner two minutes into the second half to give Villa the lead.

Chelsea had much of the pressure after that, but created few clear chances, and the game was settled with two minutes remaining, as Gabriel Agbonlahor made it 2-0 from Ashley Young’s cross.

Manchester City suffered their second straight defeat as Blackburn Rovers maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 victory at Ewood Park.

South African forward Benni McCarthy got the only goal, stabbing in from close range after 13 minutes.

Earlier Sunday afternoon, an Emmanuel Adebayor penalty and goals from Cesc Fabregas and Tomas Rosicky had helped Arsenal overcome the dismissal of Philippe Senderos to beat Portsmouth 3-1.
