London : England all-rounder Ravi Bopara will miss the final two games of the seven-match one-day series against India and the inaugural Twenty20 World Championships in South Africa because of a broken thumb, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced today.
The Essex all-rounder, who suffered the injury in England’s defeat in the fifth ODI at Leeds Sunday, could be out for six weeks, said the ECB statement.
Andrew Flintoff remains a major doubt for Wednesday’s match at the Kennington Oval because of new problems with his left ankle. The Lancashire all-rounder is also a big concern for the Twenty20 tournament, which starts Sep 11.
England will have to consider whether to risk the 29-year-old’s fragile fitness in the remainder of the one-day series and also in the Twenty20.
Flintoff has only just returned to action after undergoing a third operation on his left ankle earlier this year.
