Chandigarh : Over 610,000 tonnes of paddy has been procured by public and private agencies in Punjab so far, food and supplies department officials said Wednesday.
Nearly 94 percent of all paddy arrivals in the state has been procured by government agencies – five of the Punjab government as well as the central government’s Food Corporation of India (FCI).
The officials added that Muktsar district, with 125,626 tonnes of procurement, was leading in procurement operations whereas districts Tarn Taran and Faridkot followed with 92,618 tonnes and 82,392 tonnes of procurement.
The Punjab government has set up 1,600 procurement centres for paddy purchase across the state.
