Chennai : The directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) Tuesday seized 12 kg of ketamine, a hallucinating agent, from two international courier offices here.
Ketamine is an anaesthetic generally used for animals.
The seized drug, valued at Rs.12 million in the international market, was found from export consignments to Taipei. A Madurai-based company had booked them, a DRI press release said here.
However, no such company was found to exist in Madurai, officials said after initial investigations.
The seizure was made on intelligence reports that the stuff was being smuggled in wooden bible stands and gift shields.
Last year, DRI seized more than 185 kg of ketamine worth Rs.185 million.
