The premiere of the film was held at the Inox multiplex Wednesday.

According to Ranjan Singh of PVR pictures, which is responsible for the film’s marketing, scales for the “off the beaten track” premiere location tilted in Goa’s favour, over more conventional metro cities because Goa’s backdrop blended perfectly with music.

“It’s a perfect destination for a film dedicated to the biggest music festival in the world. We are super excited to have ‘Taking Woodstock’ premiere in Goa,” Singh said.

Luke Kenny, who plays the terminally ill, keyboardist in the Farhan Akhtar starrer “Rock On”, was a part of the premiere ensemble in Goa. He said that it was heartwarming to see the Woodstock festival being celebrated in the musically inclined state.

“Considering the film is based on the Woodstock festival, one could not have asked for a better place,” he said.

Among others who attended the premiere were renowned musicians like Uday Benegal, Ranjit Barot, Anuradha Pal, Nandu Bhende and DJ Black Jack.

“Taking Woodstock” is based on a similarly titled book by Elliot Tiber and stars Demetri Martin and the screen play has been written by James Schamus, who has produced films like “Brokeback Mountain” and “Hulk”.

The film, which is based on the making of the legendary Woodstock festival of 1969, was released in the US in August this year.
