New Delhi : A day-long session on human rights, marking the celebration of the 16th foundation day of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), began here Monday. A colourful extravaganza is expected in the evening.
Prominent speakers like Amod Kanth, chairperson of Delhi Commission of Protection of Child Rights; Henri Tiphagne of People Watch, Tamil Nadu; Justice S.R. Nayak of Karnataka state human rights commission and members of NHRC are expected to discuss various issues revolving around the subject.
Among the topics of discussion will be the obligations of the state and other human rights defenders in protecting human rights of individuals.
“After the day-long discussions among the stakeholders, there will be a cultural show in the evening in which members of the commission as well as some artistes have been invited,” an NHRC official said.
