New Delhi: The Congress Tuesday ruled out the possibility of any kind of tie-up with Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) as Maharashtra voted to elect its new state legislative assembly.
“We don’t have any kind of tie-up with Raj Thackeray at present, we didn’t have any in the past and won’t have any in future as well,” Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said.
The Congress will form the government in alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), he added.
“This time, the Congress will win more then 85 seats,” he said, adding that the NCP would easily win 60 seats.
In 2004, the NCP had won 71 and the Congress 69 seats in the 288-member assembly, and the alliance had retained power. This time, the Congress is contesting from 174 constituencies and the NCP has fielded candidates for 114 seats.
Election results are slated to be declared Oct 22.
